Installing BSP under DOS and Windows
Installing MS-DOS 7.10
Step 1:
Do a Google search for 'MS-DOS 7.10' then download the 'Boot Disk'
file and BOTH disk file of the 'MS-DOS 7.10 Full install Version'.
Note that you dont actually download 'floppy disks'. Instead you
download zip-files that each contain a Windows program you can
use to create the DOS disks.
Step 2:
The boot disk will be used for partitioning the hard disk:
Boot the computer from the boot disk and use FDISK (found on the
same disk) to partition the hard disk with a FIRST disk partition
of
500 MB (not 512!) with FAT or FAT32 but not NTFS).
(The remaining disk space can be used for Windows or Linux)
Step 3:
Now reboot the computer from the first disk of the
'MS-DOS 7.10 Full install Version' disk set.
1) Select the 'Full installation' option but without
the 'add-on' or the 'access-dos' options.
2) Enable both UMB and EMS memory
3) Select SHARE, LONGFLN, CTMOUSE,
NSLFUNC and SMARTDRV.
Reboot the computer once again and verify that
it boots to a black screen with a white C-prompt.
Step 4:
Optionally you can finish the installation by installing XP
next to DOS (make sure not to delete the DOS installation).
To install newer versions of Windows (Vista + Win 7) you
need to use a third party partition manager.
With DOS and Windows on the same computer you will
not need a floppy drive or USB stick to transfer files as
you can access the DOS partition directly from Windows.
You can download a sample of MSDOS 7.10 configuration
files from here.
