How to build a BSP computer
You need a motherboard with legacy ports and a standard
PCI slot.
Such motherboards are available from all major computer stores.
A commonly used motherboard has been Gigabyte H81M-S2PV
A newer alternative is Gigabyte GA-H110M-DS2
You need a CPU. Any CPU suitable for the motherboard
you choose can be used.
You need some RAM, as little as 1 MB is sufficient
but you probably wont find less than 1 GB modules. The RAM has to
match the motherboard of course.
You need a HD (hard drive), a few tens of MB will
be sufficient but you probably wont find less than 500 GB HDs. For
DOS you should probably avoid SSDs.
Create a primary FAT32 partion on this HD with a maximum
size of 500 MB.
It is VERY IMPORTANT that you keep this partion
below 512 MB due to undocumented internal bugs in most versions
of DOS.
The remaining space on the same hard disk can be used
for a secondary partition of any size, and/or you can install Windows
in the remaining HD space but you will need a partition manager
for this with newer Windows versions like Windows 10
You need a computer cabinet and a suitable power supply,
a monitor and a keyboard.
Most motherboards have only one on board serial port
så you need a DOS compatible PCI extension card with more
ports. You can order a suitable 8 port card from Bailine HQ.
Update the bios on the motherboard to the newest available
version to avoid typical problems using USB keyboards with DOS.
